Our objective was to keep abreast of global environmental issues. We subscribed to lists with "Environment" as the main topic. The lists consisted of political, private and educational organizations. We evaluated our lists on content, frequency, objectivity, comprehensibility, dialog and web association. Each category was rated with a possible 0 through 5 points. Scores were rounded the nearest whole number. All scores were added together and averaged for the final score in each category. The category scores were summed for the lists final score. Total possible score for each list is 0-30.We rated seven lists. One list was exactly what we were looking for. However, most of the others fell short of our expectations. Once we choose our lists we stuck with them. Even if they fell out immediately, as one did. We felt it lent validity to our rating system. We also maintained our subscriptions to one that did not produce anything. Again, this gave the rating process more validity. A few things would have been more helpful in choosing which lists to subscribe. They are better list descriptions, the mailing frequency and a better description of content. With this additional information we would have been able to choose more lists like ENVIRONEWS, our overall winner. Below are the subscibe and unsubscribe commands along with our rating of each list.
